Choosing the right size reverse cycle air conditioner

Split system Air Conditioner

As the name implies, a split system AC is made up of two “split” units – an indoor unit that is placed in the room you want to cool and a compressor (outdoor unit). The indoor unit containing the evaporator component blows conditioned air into the room while the outdoor unit expels the heat gathered from the indoor unit.

Multi-Head system Air Conditioner

Multi-split system air conditioners, like those made by Midea, can heat or cool different rooms in a property with only a single outdoor unit connected to multiple indoor units. They use the same technology as normal split unit systems, where half the system (or condenser) is located outside the home. The other half of the system or internal unit is placed inside the house.

Ducted Reverse Cycle

A ducted air conditioner consists of two units—an indoor unit typically installed in the ceiling, and an outdoor unit. The two units work together to perform a refrigeration cycle, with conditioned air circulated and delivered via a series of ducts and vents. It’s usually the ideal system for larger buildings, due to its efficiency and ease of control.

Important considerations before
choosing your new system

Before investing in a new system, consider the efficiency of your home. An efficient home will be easier and cheaper to heat and cool.

• Are there draughts in your home?

• Do you have standard or high ceilings?

• Are your roof, walls, and floors insulated?

• Does your room have many single glazed windows?

• How much sun or shade does your room receive?

• How is your home constructed? E.g., brick or weatherboard?

All these factors impact the amount of heating and cooling your house may need.
